Town of Bayfield Building Department is committed to safeguard the public health, safety, and the general welfare of the citizens and guests of Bayfield.

The Building Department requires building permits for all new single-family and multi-family dwellings, commercial structures, additions, remodels, and repair construction. Applicants should first check with the Land Use Administrator to determine if any land use permits are required for proposed project.

Single Family, Multi-Family Dwellings, Additions, Remodels, and Repair Construction

Town requires two (2) sets of detailed drawings including a site plan. The Town Land Use Administrator will review the site plan for setback compliance, drainage, and  parking requirements. The Building Inspector will review the plans and perform the required inspections to insure that all work is in compliance with the 2015 edition of the International Building Code and 2009 edition of the Energy Conservation Code.

All building projects should be reviewed by the building inspector and Town code administrator.

Some projects may not require a building permit. Please contact the Building Inspector to discuss requirements.

Commercial Structures, Remodel, and Repair

The Town requires four (4) sets of detailed drawings including a site plan. These plans will be reviewed by the Town Land Use Administrator, the Town Engineer, the Fire Marshal, and the Building Inspector.

•The Town Engineer will review the plans for existing site topography, site grading, drainage, and the utility plan.

•The Fire Marshal with Upper Pine Fire Protection District will review the plans for conformance with the 2015 International Fire Code.

•The Building Inspector will review the plans for conformance with the 2015 International Building Code, 2009 Energy Conservation Code.
