Town Board of Trustees

Mayor Ashleigh Tarkington

Mayor Tarkington was elected as Mayor in 2020. She served as Trustee for two years prior, and has served on the boards of Bayfield Chamber of Commerce, Pine River Library, and Region 9. Her term expires in 2024.

Ashleigh Tarkington is a graduate of Fort Lewis College (2000) with a Bachelor's degree in exercise science. She attended graduate school at California State University Long Beach before returning to the Bayfield area. She has owned and operated Billy Goat Saloon since 2003.

Mayor ProTem Kristin Dallison

Kristin Dallison moved to Bayfield in 1990 with her family. She attended Kindergarten through 12th grade at Bayfield School District, graduating in 2006. She is currently a stay-at-home mom. She was elected to her second term in April 2020. Her term will end in 2024.

Trustee David Black

Dave is married to Danna, retired owner of Blue Ribbon Woodworks, a custom woodworking shop. He is a lifelong resident of La Plata County and has lived in Bayfield since 1994. He holds a degree in Industrial Arts Education from the University of Northern Colorado. His education included a stint as a legislative intern in the Colorado state legislature. He is a graduate of Leadership La Plata. Dave has served on the La Plata County Board of Adjustment, the La Plata County Planning Commission, and the Bayfield Planning Commission. He has also previously served as a Bayfield Town Trustee. His term as Trustee expires in 2022.

Trustee Kelly Polites

Kelly has made La Plata County her home since 1998. After serving on the Bayfield Planning Commission in 2015, she was appointed to her first term on the Town of Bayfield Board of Trustees in May 2016. Kelly is also the Board's appointee to the Town's Tree Board. Her term will end in 2022.

Trustee Brenna Morlan

Brenna Morlan currently heads the mortgage and consumer loan department for Credit Union of Colorado, Durango branch (formerly Southwest Colorado Federal Credit Union) and has many years' experience in the banking industry. She has served as Bayfield Chamber of Commerce president since 2015. Brenna holds a Bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in management. Her term expires 2022.

Trustee Lori Zazzaro

Lori Zazzaro was elected to her first term as Bayfield Trustee in April of 2020.Her term will expire in 2024.

Trustee Aaron Wamsley

Aaron is an elementary school teacher in Bayfield. He believes that Pine River needs to be opened to recreational opportunities as a way to further economic development in Town. He was appointed to his first four-year term as Trustee in April 2020. His term will expire in 2024.

The board of trustees is supported by Town Manager Kathleen Sickles and Town Clerk Kathleen Cathcart.

Meetings

Town Board meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., in Town Hall Board Room, 1199 Bayfield Parkway. 

Agendas are available the Friday before regularly scheduled meetings.

The public is welcome to attend meetings and address the Mayor and Town Board only during the "Public Input" period at the beginning of each Board meeting.

  • Public comment is limited to three (3) minutes per person.
  • The Mayor will recognize an applicant or member of the public to speak.
  • Speaker should state his or her name and address for the record.
  • Please no interruptions.

Minutes are posted after board approval at the next regular meeting.

Public Hearings

Some meetings will include one or more public hearings todiscuss anissue or proposal

Hearing Procedures:

  • Staff presentation
  • Applicant presentation (up to 20 minutes)
  • Public input
  • Board consideration and discussion
  • No decisions are made during public hearings
